Cyto for iPhone and iPad review

Cyto for iPhone and iPad review

Cyto is a fun, new little game by Chillingo, the makers of Cut the Rope, and is about a little blob named Cyto who's forgotten who he is. It is your job to fling Cyto through space-like levels to collect memory fragments and piece together his story.

In Cyto, you control a little bubble-enclosed creature named Cyto. He lives in a dreamlike world filled with various organisms. In each level, he is sitting on one of the organisms and it is your job to get him to the portal while collecting memories on your way. There are three memories available in each level, though just getting to the portal will complete the level (think of the memories as stars).

To control Cyto, you catapult him around. Simply pull back and his bubble will stretch and act as a slingshot. Aim to the exact location you want him to go (there is no gravity to consider), and let go.

The other organisms in the level have little sprout-looking things growing on the outside of the bubble that are sticky. If Cyto lands on these spots, he will stick to the organism. Aiming for these spots is the only way to help Cyto move around the level. Some of these sticky spots interact differently with Cyto's bubble, but can always be used to your advantage.

One of my biggest complaints about similar games that are universal for iPhone and iPad is that your progress isn't normally synced between devices, but I'm happy to report that Cyto does! Cyto has an option to use iCloud to sync your progress -- and that's just awesome!

The good

  • 81 Levels of puzzling fun
  • Cute character with a great story
  • Stunning sound and artistic design
  • Great fun for gamers of all ages and abilities
  • Universal for iPhone and iPad
  • Sync progress between devices

The bad

  • Some of the text is very small and difficult to read

The bottom line

Cyto is a great, fun, and addicting game. I didn't realize it was made by Chillingo when I bought it, yet my first thoughts was that it was like a cross between Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. If you're a fan of those type of casual games, you'll love Cyto.
