MONTREAL ? Wow. No really. Wow. There?s a new David Bowie song out. It?s called Where Are We Now? and on first listen, it sounds pretty fabulous.
I saw some birthday greetings to Mr. Bowie on Twitter, notably from great, great Scottish novelist Irvine Welsh, and I went searching the web for some suitable music to help celebrate the 66th birthday of my favourite living pop artist. And that?s when I nearly choked on my Cheerios when I stumbled across this story about not only a new Bowie song but a new album coming in less than two months.
This is the first new Bowie release in close to a decade and the album, The Next Day, will be the first new Bowie studio album since 2003. It will be launched by Columbia Records in March.
I ran with my laptop to play the song for my daughter Devan, who just might be the world?s biggest Bowie fan, and the first thing she said was ? ?Does this mean he?s touring?? That we don?t know but the agreement was made on the spot that we?ll go wherever he plays to see him. It?s been a long-standing gripe of Dev?s that he retired from performing a decade back, just before she discovered him. I mean what was he thinking? How inconsiderate!
