Panasonic, Lenovo offer bigger challenge to Apple iPad

Staff San Francisco Business Times

Apple Inc. now has a larger challenge to its iPad, with Panasonic Corp. and Lenovo Group Ltd. launching tablets with screens the size of desktop monitors.

The Wall Street Journal notes that while Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) original iPad was finally challenged by rivals with smaller screens, Panasonic and Lenovo are going in the opposite direction.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Panasonic introduced a tablet with a 20-inch screen, and Lenovo unveiled a 27-inch tablet that can be used for multiplayer games.

Both tablets are powered by Microsoft Corp.'s (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows 8 operating system.
