HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) ? Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and state lawmakers will be celebrating the approval of legislation aimed at improving energy efficiency and conservation in Connecticut.
The governor is scheduled to sign the bill during a ceremony Monday at the state Capitol. He says the new law will lower consumer utility rates, create jobs and better protect the environment.
The legislature approved the proposal last month.
The law establishes a privately financed program to improve residential energy efficiency and increase renewable energy initiatives. It calls for a grant and loan pilot program to support onsite electricity generation at hospitals, police and fire stations and other facilities.
It also reduces the maximum sulfur content of heating oil and expands the ability of utility companies to trim trees near their electric and telecommunications lines.
