Australia-based Drillsearch Energy has started the drilling of Bauer-9 appraisal well in the Bauer oil field.
The well, located 800 metres north west from the successful Bauer-8 development well, will be drilled as a deviated well as a result of surface location constraints, and will appraise the north-western area of the Bauer oil field.
The main objective of drilling the well are the McKinlay Member and the Namur Sandstone, while the secondary objective is to evaluate the Birkhead Formation, considering oil discoveries close to Bauer-5 and Basham-1.
Drillsearch Energy said the well has been defined using the Modiolus 3D seismic.
Bauer-9 well will also appraise the potential for the Bauer and Bauer North fields to be part of a common oil pool.
A joint venture of Drillsearch, which holds 60% interest and Beach Energy 40%, own the PEL 91 permit, while Beach Energy is the operator of the permit.
Once the drilling completes, the Ensign 930 rig will move to the exploration well Pennington-1 located 9.3km east of the Bauer-1 and the Bauer Oil Field, the company said.
